Underwriters Laboratories 2050, or UL 2050, is the designation given to a set of very stringent security standards that apply to the securing of classified materials and information. Originally, these standards and procedures were conceived by the United States Department of Defense in 1993 and were necessary for government contractors to maintain if they were to work with the Department of Defense. The Underwriters Laboratories expanded on the original guidelines and referred to their standards as UL 2050.
A 2050 room specifically refers to a monitored room that meets the standards of the UL 2050. A security company is authorized to issue a UL 2050 certificate to a room or facility that it monitors only when it meets and passes the strict guidelines established by UL. Both the security company itself and UL will perform periodic inspections of the facility that has been certified UL 2050 room, often unannounced and at least once a year by each organization. This ensures that a 2050 room, once certified, will consistently uphold the UL 2050 standards.
New York security company Security Integrations has been certified by UL as a security company that is capable of servicing, designing, and building UL 2050 Rooms.
